I've lived in west bend for the past 8 years and i must say, it's a joke. It's nice if your retired and looking for cheap living, other then that i would not raise a family here, nor would i come here if your looking for a good job. There is a serious drug problem among the teenagers (mainly marijuana and cocaine, i would know...i went to high school here). A good 80% of the people here suffer from depression or ADD, it's boreing, the resturants are horrible (unless you like over cooked food cooked by a 15 year old kid). And if your looking for a job that pays more then $6-$8 an hour just forget about it. You'd have to drive a good half hour to Milwuakee if you want a decent paying job. As for the crime, yes it is very low but how? i have no idea. The police here are unattentive, ignorant, and SLOW. (Our home was broken into once about 2 years back and it took the cops 40 minutes to arrive, and upon arriving he checked the house and the area surrounding the house, said everything looked fine and left) When i was 16 i also recived a $75 ticket for running a STOP SIGN on my BICYCLE, I KID YOU NOT.
When it comes to raising a family as i said there is a serious drug problem among the kids here (mainly the teenagers), the only decent parks to take your kids to are Regner and Riverside, the rest have flashers running about in the wooded areas (was in the papers just several days ago...again). The people here cannot drive making it very dangerous for kids to ride their bikes and play and the people who take THEIR kids to the parks are extreamly RUDE. people here are NOT friendly in the slightest.
If your looking for a somewhat peaceful, cheap living, cold lifestyle in a small town with terrible police, cold weather, bad resturants and bad jobs, move to west bend wisconsin (im outta here)
